HI all! Mannie had a decent day yesterday - we made green  for a portion of the AM cycle, surfed the blues for a bit of the PM cycle. Slight bounce this morning from yesterday - with a 286. The fattened dose started the other day seems to be bringing the numbers down some: Nice to see more greens!

I may need to take Mannie to the vet today. I had heard this ruckus outside yesterday afternoon, obviously a drooler on the run after a furbaby - turns out it was Mannie. After a mad dash under the fence, he ended up bolting up a tree  , with the drooler barking up a storm on the other side of the fence. Didn't know Mannie could move that fast, and scale a tree trunk that fast either. :o All seemed fine until he climbed on my lap, and left a bloody footprint on my leg. oh great.... it seems better today, but is still very tender, still oozing a very small amount, still doesn't want his bean to check it out. I just think it would be best to have someone check it out - he's not too keen on my poking and prodding. Don't want to run the risk of infection or abscess.

Other than that he's great! breffis #1 and #2 eaten, though he still isn't to keen on being served via auto feeder. I had my getting ready supervisor in place this morning - I must have done OK - got the once-over, a few meows and purrs and off he went. Napping now in progress on top of his catnip stash. Looks like a good start today, despite the paw thing.

Re: 9/13 Mannie AMPS 286

ouch ... poor baby .. hope you can get him to the vet and the vet can get a look at that paw .. sounds like it probably hurts .. poor little man .. I see mocha and mannie are on the same floor .. hope they both come down a floor or two today!

Re: 9/13 Mannie AMPS 286

poor Mannie, got quite the scare and now an icky boo-boo. I hope it heals quickly and doesn't hurt him too much. Let us know what the vet says

Re: 9/13 Mannie AMPS 286

You are such a good Mama Bean...best to have the vet check it out... (LOL...I guess they don't think that WE have the qualifications to do certain things....at least that's the way my two are...they look at me as if to say "Hey...you don't know how to do that Woman...donna touch me"!!)
Mannie did have a great AM cycle yesterday...and it was considerate of him to let you have a restful PM cycle!
Good luck at the vet...

Mannie:
Party again today!!! Weeble is OTJ!
This is SO much FUN with all this
partying! See you later?
I heard you had a boo-boo...get it taken
care of and come on to the party then!
See you soon my friend!
Shad-O

Re: 9/13 Mannie AMPS 286, +2 312

312 @ +2. UGH! Come on down, OK Mannie?

Thanks guys. I will call the vet when they open. He still will not let me look, even a touch gets a growl. Best to have someone take a peek.

Hey Shad-O! I heard that vetty word this morning - nooooooooo! I get around just fine, I don't see what the big deal is. Silly bean! I hope I don't get bandages and stuff - I would look so ridiculous. And what if they shave my paw?  oh boy.... See you soon! I will be at the party, even if I am on crutches. ~~ Mannie

Re: 9/13 Mannie AMPS 286, +2 312

Sounds like me may have a torn toenail Michelle is my guess since he ran up a tree let us know what the says is it front or back paws? could be a paw pad too but I am guessing nail.
let us know what they say Do Lou and I are worried about Mannie (((((HUGS))))

Re: 9/13 Mannie AMPS 286, +2 312, +4 235

Awww, Poor Mannie. Michelle, maybe that higher +2 is pain? Oh, I see he's coming down; good.
I hope it's nothing but a little booboo that can just be cleaned and watched..Not that Mannie will let you look at it.
Schnuzzles to poor little Mannie. Bad dog, scaring our baby.!

Re: 9/13 Mannie AMPS 286, +2 312, +4 235, off to vet

Thanks Lisa! it's his back paw. I am wondering if you may be right. As far as I could tell, the bleeding area is around the claws, in front of the pad. so... yep - could be. I just tried to look again, touched the claws, got an immediate growl. yeah... poor guy! It obviously hurts him. other than that he's active, happy, doing normal Mannie things.

235 @ +4, and coming down nicely. Of course I can only imagine what a trip to the vet, in the carrier, in the car, to TBP, to have them poke and prod, and do this and that to his boo boo, will do to his BG's... ought to be interesting

vet appt in an hour.... oh how i hate these trips....

Re: 9/13 Mannie AMPS 286, +2 312, +4 235, off to vet

Hi Barb - I too wondered about the 312 - if it was pain related, or just not feeling well because of it - or what. He's very good at hiding not feeling well - sometimes I just can't tell when things are out of sorts. Well we shall see what they say. I hope it's just a clean, and nothing they "have to fix". :?

He BG is down at +4, so maybe it's not as awful as we beans worry that it may be. Maybe it was just "a Mannie number"... :?:

Re: 9/13 Mannie AMPS 286, +2 312, +4 235, off to vet

Good luck at the vet Michelle yes that is what it sounds like if he growls when you touched it will be checking for updates poor Mannie bad ole drooler chasing him making him hurt his foot    sending healing vines for the foot

Re: 9/13 Mannie AMPS 286, +2 312, +4 235, off to vet

Oh Poor Mannie hurt his foots!! Hope vetty will fix it up right away!! Moonie & I send Healing green vines to one of our BFFs!!
Hope he will be better for the Party today!! Many Hugs!! Hope all will be well--Update asap! :YMHUG: :YMHUG: :YMHUG:

Re: 9/13 Mannie AMPS 286, +2 312, +4 235, off to vet

Oh Mannie! Your Paw??? I hope it doesn't hurt too bad. I'll help at the grill so you can take the weight off it. On the bright side , the girls always swoon over battle wounds. You'll be busy tonight. -- Tess

Poor Mannie, I hope it isn't serious. It just makes his numbers yesterday all the more impressive, getting back to blues after a scare and a hurt paw.

Re: 9/13 Mannie AMPS 286, +2 312, +4 235, off to vet

Good luck at the vet. I hope they can fix him up quickly. I'm glad he still seems to be feeling good and I'm really glad he can run & climb so fast!

Re: 9/13 Mannie AMPS 286, +4 235, +5.5 225 vet report

Hey Mannie, You got hurt when the drooler chased you up a tree? That happened to me last year. I ran straight up 20 feet (and I don't have front claws because some former beans had them removed). Then I peed on the drooler. Then I fell out of the tree, but got up and had a fight with the drooler. I ran to my car and turned around and hissed at him, and he ran away. I won!! I hope you won, too!! And I hope your paw/nail is OK. Have it looked at by the vetty bean and it will be fine. See you tonight!
Your pal,
Stu

Re: 9/13 Mannie AMPS 286, +4 235, +5.5 225 vet report

omg guys... seems that in his rapid ascent up the tree he managed to rip-out one of his claws   , and OW! the poor thing was just hanging in there. :o and euuuwwww! well they removed the claw (well it actually fell out :? ), flushed, cleaned and soaked the site, administered some general local pain killer, didn't have to wrap the site as they bleeding had ceased by then, shot him up with antibiotics, and sent him home. that just makes me hurt thinking about it. I ought to send my bill to my neighbor who owned the dog.  poor Mannie - a tree climb and a nasty scare - it was a good hour last night before he settled down. (Ann - you are right - amazing that I got the numbers that i got...)

What a trooper! We made the trip with no fuss. I had purchased a new carrier a while back - a big roomy one which he really likes, he can move in it, see out all sides, its been great. We did well til we walked in the vetty place, when all sorts of hollers came out of that carrier. of course he had to pee all over everything. major kitty stress! It was nice to see when we got home that his BG number wasn't elevated over the number I got just before we left.

They did give him a broad spectrum antibiotic by injection that is supposed to last for 14 days: Convenia. Anybody had any experience with it? it was that or Clavamox... and well I thought/hoped that avoiding the dreaded Clavamox would be better? Shesssshhh hope so, and that I haven't made a major mistake.

Funny - when we got home he had to tour every nook and cranny of the house. yes Mannie you are home.

TESS!  I lost a claw! I am now deformed, sort of... Is it true what they say: That chicks dig scars? Really? I am much better now - the vetty lady was nice and kind to me. She gave some really cool drug stuff on my paw so I didn't feel anything. But wow - they soaked my paw for the longest time - that was really weird. And they poked me with a nasty looking pokey thinige, said it was medicine. :o :? so I think I am ok... except for "that smell" . nasty... see you tonight! I am all set to grill and stuff. YAY!! ~~ Mannie

Stu! DUDE! Really? You climbed without any claws? You are my hero! And you nailed the drooler? WAY TO GO MAN! I bet he smelled funny for a week.  I am SO impressed. Awesome man! you won the fight too. YAY!!!!! See you tonight! ~~ Mannie

Re: 9/13 Mannie AMPS 286, +4 235, +5.5 225 vet report

Awww, poor Mannie!! Glad the trip to the vet helped figure out what was ailing the poor guy and glad to see he's now on the mend! Hopefully those numbers will start to come down now that he's all patched up!

Re: 9/13 Mannie AMPS 286, +4 235, +5.5 225 vet report

What a perfect example why it's best to get to the vet and have things checked out.

It's good to hear that Mannie made it through the whole ordeal and is well enough to patrol home territory... for any stray hiding dogs or something. Best to check it out before relaxing and tending to the wounded paw.

Re: 9/13 Mannie AMPS 286, +4 235, +5.5 225 vet report

Geeze, Mannie, that sounds like it hurts. I lost a tooth in a fight once. :dizcat grumpy_cat angry(2)_cat Just thinking about it. But yeah, they'll be all over you tonight trying to take care of you. We're buds, so I can't make a fuss, but I'll be right there if you need anything. -- Tess

Re: 9/13 Mannie AMPS 286, +4 235, +5.5 225 vet report

I'm glad Mannie is okay now. Will the claw grow back? Poor guy.

Do a search on FDMB on Convenia. I remember reading a Dr. Lisa post about it - it can cause severe anemia. Not to scare you, but it would be better to have the info than not.

Re: 9/13 Mannie AMPS 286, +4 235, +5.5 225 vet report

Awwww - poor Mannie! That sounds so painful - no wonder he didn't want you to check it! So glad you got him to the vet and had it taken care of. Emma does exactly the same thing when we go to the vetty place - she's fine til we walk in the door, and pee starts flowing out the side of the carrier. cat(2)_steam They get so stressed out! Hope you don't run into any problems with that a/b. I don't know anything about it so I can't help with that.

Re: 9/13 Mannie AMPS 286, +4 235, +5.5 225 vet report

Oh noes Mannie! So sorry you got chased by a drooler and got a owwie! That's why I stay inside - it's bad enough in here with the drooler and my brother Kibby picking on me sometimes. Mamabean says he's just playin', but I dunno, it's NO FUN for me! Last time he gave me a puncture wound in my cheek and it swelled up all big and i felt no good at all. Then I was acting funny after the vetty bean fixed it, so mamabean took me back and they said i'm a sugar kitty. So I'm glad you're doing better now, and that you'll still be able to cook at the party. See ya there!! - Muffin

Great numbers for Mannie in spite of everything he went thru - what a trooper!

Re: 9/13 Mannie AMPS 286, +4 235, +5.5 225 vet report

Hi all,

Thanks for everything. He seems to be fine... one claw less, but fine. He was so glad to be home. His paw does bother him a little - he shakes it now and then, but is up and about, in between the normal mid-day naps.

And thank you Ele for mentioning the issues with Convenia, and I hope I have not made a very bad mistake. Guess all I can do now is watch him, and if any of those symptoms present themselves I will get him in asap. I wish I'd known, I would have said no. Takes me back to 6 years ago and my best bud that I lost to metacam. Well now I know, have the info, and we will keep a careful eye on him. Thank you!

Hope it heals up OK Michelle with no problems I have only had that happen once and it healed up Ok for us it was a long time ago and the cat did not lose the nail like Mannie Poor Mannie :YMHUG: :YMHUG: :YMHUG: :YMHUG: cat_pet_icon I have never used convenia as of yet so I would just research it if I were you we use it were I work but so far it has not been uses for any of my cats yet so I honestly do not know much about the drug.

Re: 9/13 Mannie AMPS 286, +4 235,+ 7 233 vet report

Hi Michelle, Poor Mannie to lose a claw, but I'm sure it will heal quickly. At least he has all the others! Wow about Convenia, but at least it was just a one-time shot. Are there any medications out there that are free of side effects???
Now, Mannie, you take it easy for a few days and heal your paw. Tonight you can take lots of breaks from grillin' and let Tess do some. Stu is already on his way to the party. He'll see you there.

Ella

Re: 9/13 Mannie AMPS 286, +4 235,+ 7 233 vet report

aww poor Mannie, sounds so painful but I'm glad they got you treated and hope you'll be all better in no time.

Re: 9/13 Mannie AMPS 286, +4 235,+ 7 233 vet report

Hey Michelle, you're gonna hear "told you", from Lisa

I'm glad it was 'only' a claw, but still, that must have hurt like crazy. Poor Mannie. Bet he gets spoiled more than usual tonight. Hope he's well enough to party tonight. :-D

Re: 9/13 Mannie AMPS 286, +4 235,+ 7 233 vet report

Poor Mannie...that must have been so painful last night. Oh my...
Glad you went to the vet Michelle....I hope he will be okay. :YMHUG:

Mannie my friend!
OUCH dude!
that hurts me just hearing about it!
That is another reason why you have to
watch out for those dumb droolers!
You HAD to get up in that tree aspo!
Don;t worry Mannie..you will grow another
one. You will just have to sit out for awhile
when the dancing begins...take a load off,
ya know? the girls will all be around you and
doting on you...you will be just fine!
Hope it feels better buddy...
Shad-O

Re: 9/13 Mannie PMPS 219, vet report

Thanks to everybody that visited Mannie today - I appreciate all of you. Here we are at pmps with a 219 - nice mellow yellow surf despite all that he has been through since late yesterday. He is doing well this afternoon. We have had naps, and snacks (well one), and an hour outdoors laying in the sun, and dinner that was devoured. I can tell that his paw does bother him some, not too bad though. He still jumps on to tables, still jumps off, with no complaints. I will have be vigilant and makes sure it stays clean. It's kind of funny to watch him look at it, shake it a few times, look again, and meow - like what's up with this appendage? He seems to be just fine.

I am still a little concerned about the antibiotic he was given. yes Roonie - it was convenia, stated on the invoice. (thanks to all of you that sent me the info and links) omg - and scary. But it is a done deal now, and all I can do is hope that it does not adversely affect him, and watch him carefully over the several few days. I know what to watch for - and hope to heck that I don't see any of them - and the ER is only 10 minutes away. It just makes me sick to think that I may have put him in harm's way, because I was not informed, and knew no better. Live and learn, and not again.

I hope I can go hiking tomorrow - it is our one decent weather day this week. I will see how Mannie is in the morning, and should all 5 p's be there, a good appetite, an a decent number then off I go.

Hey all my buddies! I am off to the party - ready to grill and cook and chow down. I feel so much better! My paw looks a little weird, but Tess says that chick's love scars, so good to go. Thank you - all of you - for your war stories,. they were so cool, and i feel better knowing I wasn't the only one. See you soon, Mannie, aka the one claw less wonder.

Re: 9/13 Mannie PMPS 219, vet report

Oh my goodness Mannie...

Such a horrible ordeal and a scar to show for it!!!

You poor, poor, baby.

Re: 9/13 Mannie PMPS 219, vet report

I'm glad you took Mannie to the vet and got him all fixed up. About the Convenia, I think a lot of vets see it as some kind of all-purpose miracle antibiotic. The first time I heard about an antibiotic shot that means you don't have to try to pill a cat for 2 whole weeks, I sure thought it sounded great! I'm sure the majority of cats have no problem at all, and as long as you know what to watch for Mannie will be fine.

Re: 9/13 Mannie PMPS 219, vet report

Oh Mannie, I'm sorry you got hurt. It sounded really really painful.
I think you'll start to feel a lot better, now that the vet fixed it.

Re: 9/13 Mannie PMPS 219, vet report

Well Michelle...if it makes you feel any better, my vet swears by that stuff. She wanted to give Raja that once and I told her that I heard things about it and I would rather do the Clavamox. She looked at me in such shock...could not believe I didn't want it...

I brought paperwork back there and gave it to the vet tech to give to the doctor. She too said that it was a miracle drug that they use ALL the time and have never had any issues with it at all. It is a very busy vet office so I imagine they have prescribed it hundreds of times with no negative effects. I do think that Dr. Lisa objects to it's use for everything now...an abuse of the drug which was designed for skin problems I think and was not meant to be given after dentals, etc but because of the convenience for the caretakers, it is given for everything under the sun now.
You know what to look for now so that's what you will do with Mannie...just watch him and hopefully, he will be just fine....

Re: 9/13 Mannie PMPS 219, vet report

Thanks Libby and Pat too - I appreciate your comments. I've just been a little un-nerved once I read all the side effects. I have also read reports of cats that have done fine with it. so --- will watch and be positive. Thanks guys - so much! I do feel better. We will watch, and not worry. thank you both.

Re: 9/13 Mannie PMPS 219, vet report

Tess was given Covenia after dental without asking us (by idiot ex vet). She was just fine, but it's not a chance that needs to be taken. Most cats are OK. Like dry food the "one shot vs. 2 weeks of pills" is taking the easy way not the best way that too many vets are adopting.

Re: 9/13 Mannie PMPS 219, +2 243, vet report

Thanks Ann. I feel a little better, but still not very pleased with the situation. I agree with you: not worth the chance. well, we will just keep an eye out, and hope all is well.

243 @ +2 -- a bit of a food spike I think. My timing was a bit off on his chicken snack - I think it influenced the number a little... maybe. Or it's just Mannie being Mannie. Perhaps the events of the past 24 hours just caught up with him.

Re: 9/13 Mannie PMPS 219, +2 243, vet report

Mannie...
I am making a sprint for your foot so you won't get it hurt...
oh, I mean a splint. It'll be like a walking boot or a cast but
it won't be bad. It's just to protect your foot so no one will
hurt it accidentally. And you will have to take it easy tonight
my friend. You can relax for one night, can't you?
OH..and Mannie...I have to tell you...BEWARE of Raja cause
she is wearing those black stiletto heels that Binks gave her.
So that's why I am making the splint for your foot...just one
night okay dude? The girls will go crazy....they love to help and
play nurse. I might make one for my foot too...that would be
funny...they will really love us then right Mannie?
your friend
Shad=O

Re: 9/13 Mannie PMPS 219, +2 243, vet report

Shad-O! We will be twins! That is so cool! Thank you - you are one of the bestest buddies ever! No one has ever made me a splint before. My bean had to explain what it was. Raja wore black stilettos??  dude those are so scary! I will stay away from raja's stillettos... they put holes in things ya know, and I already have a hole... I will try and be good tonight. Tess is helping me grill, and well she said chick love scars, so it will all be good right? and if you wear a splint too we could really be busy with the ladies. WOOT! This will be such fun!

Thank you Shad-O! You are the best. ~~ Mannie

thanks Pat - that was nice, cute, and made my day. Which has gotten better as the hours go by. Mannie seems to be doing well - he's kinda funny - when he lays down he sticks that paw out - like "look - see what happened to me?". what a guy. of course he has gotten lots of rubs and pets tonight. Thanks for making me feel better.

Re: 9/13 Mannie PMPS 219, +2 243, vet report

Oh scarey run in (or is that run up) with the drooler. I hope it doesn't happen again. We have 2 droolers behind us that come and steal the outside girls' food and bowls and sometimes will chase them. AND they leave deposits for me to step in. GERR.

I hope Mannie heals up quickly. Do claws come back or is this a permanent thing?

Re: 9/13 Mannie PMPS 219, +2 243, vet report

ewwww! ouch!
i'm just catching up now. what a day! poor mannie. that had to hurt.

my vet is another one who swears by covenia. they use it all the time. he was shocked when i refused to let alex have it after a dental...

hope you can both get some rest tonight!

Re: 9/13 Mannie PMPS 219, +2 243, vet report

Youchers! Speedy healing, Mannie. And, yes, I think chicks dig scars, especially ones received from out-foxing the canine variety!

Re: 9/13 Mannie PMPS 219, +2 243, +4 204, vet report

hi all! euwwww and ow about sums it up  what an ordeal - just goes to show that one should go to the vet whenever there is any question. I looked at that paw this AM, and could not tell that he had a problem, short of the growls. it wasn't until the vet had him where she could really look that the damn thing fell off. gross! makes me cringe just imagining how that felt to Mannie. poor guy!

thx Jill - a few have chimed in saying the same thing. obviously my vet feels the same way. Well next time i won't so ill-informed... in the meantime, so far, Mannie seems just fine - no change in anything, short of a mildly sore paw. never again, not for me.

joyce - i dunno? do they? he'd be happy to get his claw back - he's not too crazy about "that gap".

and that's a yes vote from Johnny - chick DO dig scars. Mannie - you're in!

Thank you - Shad-o - my buddy! ~~ Mannie

204 @ +2. been a yellow day today for sure. that's ok - i can accept that.

Re: 9/13 Mannie PMPS 219, +2 243, +4 204, vet report

Muffin came home from the party for her shot, and I noticed some different cat hairs on her - looks like it could be Mannie's! Me thinks she may have been doting on him!

Re: 9/13 Mannie PMPS 219, +2 243, +4 204, vet report

Mannieeee!! Poor baby boy!! Your poor footsie! You know I have a bad footsie from my neuropathy-- But yours will heal right up! You know us kitties,we go with the flow and adjust to everything!! I saw you tonite & you looks fine! Didnt affect your partying any!! We luvs ya & hope your footsie is well real soon!! Huggies from Moonie! ;-) ;-) ;-)

Michelle, sending healing toe vines to Mannie's Boo Boo! So sorry, it hurts us when they are hurt!! Hope it heals up real quick--
Moonie had 2 doses of metacam after her 1st dental with stupid old vet, but she was absolutely fine--Hugs to you & Mannie!

Muffin - I won't say a word! You were so sweet to take care of me. Thank you! You are a great friend. Did you like the grillin'?~~ Mannie

Hey Moonie - it gets better each hour - but boy did it hurt when ... well you know. it was painful. But I am better - did you see the splint that Shad-O made for me? It was so cool. Shad-O made himself one too. I loved your new dance - you and Stu dance really well. I kinda suck at dancing. Maybe lessons would help? Did you like the gtillin' and cookin' tonight? Tess was so nice to help me out. Thanks too for keepingtabs on me. See you soon? ~~ Mannie

Roni - I am glad to hear that Moonie did ok with the metacam. That is good to hear, truly. I think Mannie will be fine with convenia - i hope so anyways. he's been just fine this afternoon - no symptoms, and seems to tolerate his sore paw well. Hopefully it will heal fast.

well off to bed - tired! I hope I can go hike tomorrow... ok Mannie ? - it will give you a day to rest...

181 @ +5.5. It was ncie to see the blue tonight!
