I actually briefly got in the swing of posting daily condo's but we've had some health issues around here the last bit with Jerry (my HCM kitty).. he's got surgery tomorrow to remove some lumps from his leg.. preliminary labs came back today on the needle aspiration we did and it doesn't look like cancer but we won't know until all the lumps are removed and sent away for tests.. hope everyone can send some good thoughts his way.. any surgery always comes with significant risks for a cat with heart disease.
But the real reason for my posts.. I got a full geriatric panel + fructosamine done on Nova last week and thought a couple of the things may be of interest to people around here. I don't have the results in front of me but have a few of the numbers written down from when the doctor called. Because I was doing a full panel incl T4s and stuff.. fructosamine was only $7 so we did it more so for curiosity and seeing what sort of numbers a well regulated cat would get (more so for the benefit of other diabetic cats treated at the hospital than for Nova)..
Nova's fructosamine came back at 270.. which is awesome
.. also.. we had them (human lab) take BG reading from the exact same blood sample that I took a meter reading (accu-chek aviva) from:
Lab: 130
Accu-chek: 95
I expected some difference because I know the meters read low for liability reasons..but the difference was larger than I expected. Not that it *really* matters as long as I consistently use the same method.. but I found it interesting anyways.
The lab said Nova looks awesome on paper for an insulin dependent diabetic.. I'm pretty proud of her
.. I also did a brief trial of moving Nova back to BID (from our current TID) dosing.. she climbed up pretty quick.. she's just a TID sort of girl.. I have to accept that sleep is optional
. She's been a little high the last while.. (is why I did a full panel.. just to rule out any problems).. I suspect because her mom has been pretty stressed out the last bit worrying about Jerry.. so she's back up to 0.2U TID from 0.1U.. but doing really well.
Hope everyones doing well.
