Re: 8/26 Harley AMPS 416

I can't help you right now, but I can wish you a good day, today :-D

Re: 8/26 Harley -caught him drinking milk

I am working from home today and was eating my frosted flakes. Worked called and I went to get the paperwork. When I returned to the table, Harley was drinking the sweetened (from the ff) milk. What do I do? He is already 416 AMPS

Re: 8/26 Harley -caught him drinking milk

Not sure there is anything to do...at least if he goes higher you will know the reason behind it. <sigh>
they are opportunists, aren't they? Sneaky little thieves!
Not sure what you meant about feeding MC during the night if he is in the 200s...did you reverse them by chance?
If he got MC that would explain the higher AMPS today....don't know why LC would cause him to go higher like this...
Can you get him to run around at all? Sometimes activity brings the numbers down...other than that, dont know what else you can do but wait it out...
Come on down Harley!!!

Re: 8/26 Harley -caught him drinking milk

There's really not much you can do about the milk. The sugary stuff should be in and out quickly. Better you caught what Harley was doing vs. seeing numbers go up and not know why.

Like Pat, could you clarify what you meant by wanting to feed MC if numbers are in the yellows? Personally, yellows are very safe. So are blues. I don't see any indication on Harley's SS that would make me worry that he's dropping low overnight.

Re: 8/26 Harley -caught him drinking milk, +3 442

Well, my logic was; I have been able to catch a +6 or 6.5 at night before I go to sleep. when he has been 200's, it seems like he is really high for the AMPS - kind of like a bounce. For the +6.5 snack, I give cooked chicken (0 carbs). I thought that if I give the MC instead, it would avoid the really low number that might be causing the bounce.

I am trying to be logical when inside I am upset. I hate to see the reds and he then begins to show symptoms of the diabetes. I really do hate the crying for food. It tears at my heart.

Sorry you're feeling frustrated :-|. I guess I was lucky that while Donovan spent months in reds and blacks, he didn't *act* sick. He just *looked* like crap, which I attributed to lazy grooming before he was diagnosed.

Re: 8/26 Harley -caught him drinking milk, +3 442

The LC would be sufficient I think. Unless you actually see very low numbers, it's hard to adjust for them by feeding the MC. The bounce can be from his being in yellows and not being used to it....and the higher carbs in the MC might contribute to a higher bounce.
It's good that you do those checks at night...good job!
And the ketones? I don't see a notation in your SS for awhile...and how is Hrley acting lately? Is he still crying a lot?

Re: 8/26 Harley -caught him drinking milk, +3 442

He is crying a lot lately but then again, he is in the 400's. I broke down last night and gave him more to eat.
Today he is acting like he is sick - no ketones - laying around, drinking, crying. I think it is because of the higher 400's. One of the answers to my posts said that being hungry is not unusual. Sorry, I do forget to put the "no ketone" thing on the ss.

Re: 8/26 Harley -caught him drinking milk, +3 442

That's okay...you can't think of everything all the time...((Pattie)) You are doing a great job...
I just know that when others see the SS you will be asked the same question about the ketones over and over again if it's not on the SS. Yes, Shadow used to be more hungry with the higher numbers. maybe just feed him a little when he cries. That usually calms him down right? It's frustrating to hear him crying...who needs more frustration, right? Hope he turns around soon...wonder how long sugared cereal milk takes to get out of their systems. Maybe this will teach him...no mores stealing milk Harley or you will feel sick again!!!

Re: 8/26 Harley -400's all day, can I shoot early?

Harley has been in the 400's all day and crying constantly for food. I did give him some extra but he is at it again. Can I shoot early tonight. He usually gets shot at 5:45, so I would be 1/2 hr early?

Patty

I need to go back and read some of my previous posts. I know I read about increasing and it helping with the reds but some how I would think more insulin would make him drop lower and rebound up again back to red. I am willing to try 7.0 and will begin tomorrow AM.

Pattie

Good luck with the increase tomorrow....and NO cereal milk Harley...you have to have a kitty breffis! Maybe LC snack tonight Pattie...at least he is in Pink now....that is an improvement....
Hopefully the added insulin will drive the numbers down....

I won't be making that mistake again...cereal goes into refrig if I have to do something else. I am having a sub right now and he is really in my face. I may have to do the LC soon as he is still hungry.
