1 unit lantus
Yesterday's condo:
AMPS~ 252
+3 225
+6 266

PMPS 294
+2 141
+4 86
gave her some food
+5 119

All p's except being playful. She has been through alot since we began this journey.

I'm into my second week of insulin injections. Last week we started off the week well w/beginning to transition to canned and starting 1unit of lantus. Then she developed a tummy problem/constipation due to switching too fast. And her bean did a fur shot, etc, etc.

Last night she had an 86...lowest reading thus far. Gave her a snack after that. The insulin and food transition seem to be working. She had a 183 this morning.....since I don't know how she is reacting on a regular basis

I went ahead and shot this morning for consistency sake and I will be home until noon to get an idea of what her body is really doing. Just started the home testing really this weekend on a consistent basis due to ear poking challenged bean.

She seems very, very hungry this morning. Gave her the usual and then some more 30 minutes later. She has actually lost weight w/the new diet and insulin and I might need to give her more food now.

She is doing well on the changes and that makes me happy and hopeful. I wish I could be home every morning to monitor her.....it scares me a bit at this point. I'll experiment w/giving some food during the morning and see what the results are today. May to do same tomorrow if my co-worker is willing to cover for me.

Re: 8/9 Curry AMPS 183

Morning Tena! Great 86 last night! And those AMPS this morning are great! Yeah Curry!
Great job there Tena! Glad you are able to check and seem to be really doing so very well~first week under your belt, eh?
Very nice report this morning as usual! Looking great! :mrgreen:
(You could always add the dose you are giving to your recap....beautiful job as it is, but then it would be PERFECTLY perfect!!!!)

I think you might like this explanation also:
Our kitties are so much more than just their BG numbers. There is a quick way of indicating how well they are doing by listing if all the Ps are in place...you might have read this somewhere if you are visiting other condos....well...the Ps stand for
P=purring
P=preening
P=peeing
P=pooping
P=playing
Sometimes you will see someone say "all Ps in place" or "missing one P and waiting my the LB to see if that happens" or something to that affect. LOL. All the Ps are a sign that the kitty is doing very well indeed! :mrgreen:

Re: 8/9 Curry AMPS 183

+1.5 ~ 105....gave her some more food...she was still acting hungry.....

Thanks for the feedback.

Dose is 1 unit.

Almost all the p's are in place....she hasn't been as playful during all of this....probably adjusting to all the changes and her bean following her around w/that darn lancet.

Re: 8/9 Curry AMPS 183

My two are 13 years old so the playing is usually not present. But, once in awhile, they will romp together...after catnip especially.
Right after dx while they are getting used to the insulin, they might not feel very great yet. After a little while, they start feeling better and you might just see some frolicking or happy play. Shadow began trotting down the hallway..and chasing Raja...it becomes obvious that they are feeling better anyway!

Re: 8/9 Curry AMPS 183

Just got 89 at +3.

Getting another reading at +4.

I'm so not ready for her numbers to be dropping when I know I have to go to work each day. I'm sure she'll start trending up around +5 or +6. I'm able to stay home today, but can't do it every day. I'm now nervous about tomorrow since I don't have a really good idea what her body is doing w/the insulin other than dropping. I'm be a nervous nelly. :(

Re: 8/9 Curry AMPS 183

Very nice!

Now remember what Pat said yesterday I mean saturday!...gravy is your friend.
Dry is the enemy :twisted: :lol:

All this numbers stuff and low this and that does get easier and you will feel more comfy in time.

Re: 8/9 Curry AMPS 183

Even dry at 6%? EVO? She's getting mostly canned.

Just to spot you a little easier and quicker, you can update your first subject/title line with the new numbers, just hit "edit" in your first post on this thread, add the new numbers to the subject line and hit "submitt"...replying to the last post in this thread will bump up your thread too.

Like this:

Yup even dry EVO 6%, dry is dry and still takes a little longer to get out of the system.
I know you are still transitioning, and sometimes you have to give her whatever she will eat.
Keep at it thou, and keep noting dry in the spreadsheet comments when she eats dry.

Thanks. Added the information.

Yeah, her BG is going down even w/the some dry. How many carbs does the FF turkey feast in gravy have? The can doesn't have it listed.

According to the food charts Janet & Binky's Food Charts
(Fancy Feast is located in the "old list") The cans are not going to give you that info, so do check the food charts when in doubt.

Chunky turkey is about 5%
Generally, under 10% is considered LC (low carb)

Anything (canned) grilled, minced, is higher up in the 17-18%, that may be your higher carb selection.

It may take some tracking of the numbers and food choices to see how Curry reacts.
We do encourage tracking that info, it will help you see how certain carb %'s affect Curry. ECID (every cat is different)
All this info can easily be added to your spreadsheet, this will help others too when offering feedback.

Ok, I see a blue rise at +4 on SS.

According to your notes in SS...

....Gave her the usual and then gave her some more canned sprinkled w/the EVO dry.
At +1.5 still hungry...gave her some dry EVO....she finally settled down.

so you are seeing what the little bit of dry kibble is doing.
Gravy works the same, but it's easier to manage, doesn't last as long as dry, and you avoid the dry food spikes.
You have to remember also at +3, onset has begun ( when insulin starts to kick in/the length of time before insulin reaches the bloodstream & begins lowering blood glucose )

I think you did good thou.

I would suggest while you are home, to keep an eye on those numbers. It's still early in the cycle, and if she's up to something, you'll catch it.

Most cat food doesn't list the carb content. It's relatively complicated when it comes to figuring out the % of carbs since you need "as fed" values rather than the "guaranteed analysis" info that's on the can. It would be very nice if the pet food industry adopted the same standards for listing nutritional info that human food manufacturers are required to use.

The LC Fancy Fearst or Wellness brands of say chicken or turkey are roughly 4% carb. It's not so much a matter of the carb content of dry food. It's more a matter of what's in it. The Evo chicken/turkey dry contains: Turkey, chicken meal, chicken, herring meal, chicken fat, peas, carrots, eggs, turkey meal, pea fiber, natural flavors, apples, cranberries, herring oil, tomatoes, pumpkin, dried chicory rood, cottage cheese, alfalfa sprouts.

Cats can't process apples, peas, tomatoes, pumpkin, etc. and many are lactose intolerant. Cats are obligate carnivores -- they need meat and certain specific vitamins and minerals. I've yet to hear about a vegetarian cat!!

really nice numbers today, Curry is doing great!

You can feel safe leaving her because you tested a lot today, so you can see what is going on with her. She dipped a little, but not too much, and once she hit green she went back up. She's not going too low, and she's looking good. :smile:
