What a sweetie this boy is. He came to me from Stefani's house on Wednesday and will be here about 3 weeks. He is beautiful, although his coat needs some work. It's coarse and dandruffy, but I'm sure with regulation and a little salmon oil in his food that will improve.

He is amazing with my cats. He completely ignores them and their small (and thankfully less frequent) hissy fits from my two young ones. Ennis hasn't seemed to notice that Bastian is here, even though they were on the bed at the food plate at the same time. (Ennis is definitely retired.) Bastian wanders around the house in amazement. He is only closed into the guest room now if I'm away from the house and at nighttime.

Bastian had a dental with six extractions on Monday. Ouch. He was under anesthesia for 3 hours. He came home on Clindamycin and Buprnex. I finished the Bupe this morning. There are no instructions for how long he gets 1ml Clinda BID. What is the appropriate length of time for a post-dental ABX?

I started Bastian on Levemir on Wednesday. We did that hoping to get him a smoother ride. Stefani hasn't keep a public log, but she was having the same problem with Lantus that I'm having with Levemir. A good drop, but no duration. The Lantus duration was starting to improve (his PSs were generally in the 300s whereas now they are generally in the 400s).

Is the solution to this bouncing a matter of time, of dosage, or maybe the human insulins just don't work well on Bastian? Any ideas are welcome. His spreadsheet since he's been with me is here.

Hi Sebastian!

It looks to me like the insulin is working fine. It has only been a few days on Lev and he just had a dental, his numbers are bound to be wonky for a little while. The solution for bouncing is usually just time, I would let this dose settle for a few days (keep testing, since he had some green and he'll probably go back there). If he still has any pain, that could be affecting the numbers too.

Regarding the clinda, I'm not sure but I would guess you're supposed to use it until you run out.

Lack of duration is usually underdose or bouncing. **edited** did not realize was reading SS upside down.

You just have to ride out the bounce when they first start on Levemir/Lantus. They will do that several times for 1-3 cycles after the greens until they get used to being in healthy numbers again. I'd hang on to that .75u and see if you can get some flattening. In other words, IMO you're not missing duration, you're dealing with the insulin settling and the shed filling.

I used Clin for 2 solid weeks after dentals, at recommendation of my vet.
