I'm sorry I have no info from yesterday- I LITERALLY worked all day and I haven't talked to BF yet to see if he was successful with testing.

We are still sticking with the 1u shot. (Although I'm not sure if BF did.)

Is 168 a good number for +8? It makes me happy but I need confirmation before I celebrate!

I'm not sure how to find my past posts but I know someone mentioned that they live in Hbg, PA..... Me too!

(Hey, I learned how to edit instead of posting a reply to add something new! Anyways, I PROMISE that I'll get some more consistant tests up here soon, my work schedule has been crazy lately.)

this is a good feature for updating your main subject line (the first one) but if you are giving a detailed update, do make a reply instead, this will bump your thread to the top. Most of us don't read the first post twice, we just scroll down to the latest reply. So we don't want to miss anything right?

Darn, I thought I was getting all message board savvy, haha. You all are teaching me about my cat AND the internet!

Definitely will get a pmps tonight and I'll probably be able to get a few more. I'll be home this weekend so I hope to get some solid info.

Question about feeding: After browsing through the board it seems some people feed as much as the cat wants? I only feed twice a day but he begs for food all the time. He did that before the onset of his FD but I'm wondering if I should be giving more food?

*waves to her Hbg neighbour* There you are! I thought I scared you off!

East or west shore? I'm in Colonial Park. Do you need testing tips? Sources for food, treats, supplies?

We typically encourage small meals spread out thru the day.
However, non regulated kitties tend to eat a lot more, but as they start to feel better, numbers improve, they slow down on the food.

As an example, Luna was eating almost three 5.5oz cans a day in the first few months, he gained his weight back over winter and his numbers improved and by then he was down to about one can a day.

You may want to invest in a timed feeder like the PetSafe brand, or freeze some canned foods in ice cube trays (cover with clear wrap) and as you leave for the day dump a few cubes of food in his bowl. Thru the day they will melt. You can do this with multiple kitties too, it seems to work for a lot of people.
Or if your boyfriend is home, have him offer a few snacks. Same thing applies before bedtime. Having food availble for them to graze on.

Besides that if you're not home and Bear is dropping, he will want food. Most kitties will eat when they are getting low.

Keep in mind, with Lantus you want to pull the food after +10, if kitty eats after +10 in either cycle, you may have a food spike pre shot number.

So for preshot time, you test, feed and shoot within 5-15 minutes.

UNLESS you have a lower than usual preshot number, you can stall, re-test in 15-30 minutes and if the number is rising, then it may be ok to shoot.
But again, you need those pre-shot numbers. And some mid cycle spot checks.

There is always someone online here in the Lantus forum, morning and nite, so do post when you can ok? Especially if you are not sure if to shoot.

There you are. Glad to see your post.

168 is a beautiful number for Bear. Not too low, not too high. Were you using urine test strips to test for sugar concentration before you started home testing? The reason I ask is that it can help you fine tune things if you need to. For now, this is much better than the wide range you were getting, and there's an excellent chance that it is "under the renal threshold", which means his sugars are available to his organs and cells rather than having excess spill out through his kidneys and show up in the urine.

You should notice improvement in the litter box (not as much, not as sticky), and his appetite should also level off as his BGs come under control. You might see and feel improvements in his fur, too. I'm getting ahead of myself, sorry, I'm just happy to see this number.

Now, he may still "bounce" from this number, but I hope this will be where he tests for a while while the dose settles.
