The only test I got in the middle of the night was a +8 of 249.

I woke up late! With J.D. laying on the top of my head purring. He ate his breakfast, and is sitting in his favorite place in the middle of the living room.

Hey J.D....I don't find it so nice that you and Shadow are up on the pink floor...can you both come down please? You can do better than this...I know you can!!!

J.D. has a white chin and muzzle with black lips. At his physical on July 12th, I asked the vet about the pale pinkish color under his bottom lip. The vet mentioned that he had some acne. That's all there was was some pinkish peach color. Tonight, when I came home from work, I saw that he actually has a small red spot on his chin. I soaked some hydrogen periozide on a cotton pad and wiped his chin, and later put a little dot of neosporin pain relief cream on it, and noticed then that it has a raised pimple like shape. Does anyone have advise on treating feline acne?

Hi Dyana,

I never used any treatment in our case.
We had plastic/fish allergens, so just took away all plastic (bowls, containers and toys and no fish) I do recall after a couple days Luna develop a pink dot on his chin too, within 24 hours it had flared up red, I switched the bowls and it faded away within the following day.
I did clean the area with a warm cloth, just to cleanse it.

Has J.D always had that or it just showed up? I do see this come up sometimes in the Health forum, have a look thru there if like. You can do a search by topic too and you'll get a pop up of all threads discussing "chin acne".

http://www.fabcats.org/owners/skin/acne.html nice article it does not mention much about yeast causing it since my vets feel like this is often the case I have a girl here who has a chronic problem and I use nystatin cream for her and it really helps sometimes constant washing just will make it worse.

Most of what I've heard about feline acne has to do with a reaction to plastic bowls or whatever. We only use glass, stainless steel or the occasional ceramic bowl... I've read of natural remedies for it, but it usually goes away on its own in my experience.

I don't know as much about the yeast connection to it - but yeasts are usually a problem when too much sugar is present or when antibiotics wipe out good bacteria. If it's a yeast issue, probiotics are probably a good choice and you could also try gentian violet topically - it's a crazy purple dye, but I've used it when nystatin didn't work for me and it seemed to do the trick.. Only had to use it a few times.

Hi Dyana,

My civie Jackson has had feline acne for years. When he gets an outbreak I use sterile gauze with warm water and Nolvasan (a surgical cleansing solution available from veterinarians) to cleanse his chin and then use (BUT you may not be able to use this because it's got steroid) Tresaderm bid for a week or two. Sometimes Jackson gets really big painful lumps on his chin and I only use ceramic and stainless bowls so it has nothing to do with that...it's just him. I suggest calling your vet for advice since most topical creams and lotions recommended for feline acne contain steroids and see what he/she suggests. It'll go away (with cleaning and some kind of treatment)so don't worry :)

Dyana!!! Moonie has had feline acne many times but now it has been gone(antijinx)
I washed her face(chin) everyday with HIBICLENS--an antibacterial soap, few drops on a washcloth, apply to spots, wash right off--Dry it off.
Then we applied oxydex available thru vet, very thin layer--This after few weeks worked great, much better than other remedies we had gotten!
We used stainless, and plastic plates,
Now we use Corelle dishes & have No Problem--This all finally worked after many other things we tried..
Hope it helps------ :-D
