Now I know why the vet hasn't called about Meadow. She moved away!!! I have an appt with one of the other vets on Monday to draw the blood work. I guess I'll have to explain everything all over again to this one. Wish me luck. I've printed tons of stuff so he better not given me any trouble. Also, when I was getting ready to test the AMPS, Meadow was laying beside me loudly purring and had some of that sparkle back in her eyes. She hasn't purred for 6 months. :-D

What a great report today!! You must be thrilled! I think there's a good chance that Meadow may see some yellow numbers while you're at work.

Nice that the practice let you know that your vet had left! Let us know what you printed out. I can attach journal articles from veterinary journals if you want those to bring along. I'd also encourage you to get into Gayle/Shadoe/Oliver's mind set when dealing with a vet. Remember, they are working for you. You are the customer and it's your hard earned dollars that are paying for tests and visits. You have done your research and you are not an ill-informed consumer AND you know your cat better than the vet. My vet may give me advice (e.g., don't test as much) and I laugh and then forget her suggestion once I'm out the door. There are other times that I need her expertise. We work as a team and she is comfortable with my skill set -- for example, if a medication is available as an injection, she'll ask my preference.

If you need info on why you want the acro/IAA tests please let us know that, as well. The vet should not be giving you a hard time about the tests and if s/he does, I think the reply of, "Humor me." is in order!

Hi Amber

nice to see you smiling!
And Meadow purring! So sweet!

Definitely get Gayle/Shadoe's input when dealing with the vets for these tests. She's very good!

I'm glad to hear about the appointment.

Someone (maybe you?) had some websites a while back for me to look at on acro. They were from veterinary journals (one was about how even though they may not "look" acro, they still could be). I printed those and the test forms from MU. Also, I printed other articles that list symptoms of cushing's. I'm going to have that test done too, just to make sure. I bought a 6x9 piece of vinyl from Home Depot and put it in Meadow's room. She poops in the litter box, but still pees on the floor sometimes. So now she pees only on the vinyl, not the hardwood. I have the sides lifted a little so the pee stays on the vinyl and doesn't run off onto the floor. I have a litterbox in the laundry room on the first floor, that 6 times out of 10, she'll pee in. The other 4 is on the laundry room floor. I put a pad with a rug on top of this, and she pees on it. Sometimes, she walks by it and gets in the box, and then sometimes it's on the rug. It just depends on her mood. I can't figure it out (lol).

I just had Jazzy's blood drawn today to have tested for acro/IAA. I guess our cats' tests will be run at the same time! It's scary in a way, but I actually feel relieved now that the tests are ordered. I feel like I'm doing something, and getting information that I need so I can treat Jazzy properly. Jazz has actually surprised me by getting some good numbers this week, but I'm doing the bloodwork anyway.

Yes, it did require some discussion with my vet, and the words "humor me" do work. It's my money, if I want to spend it on this test then please do it.

"I'll pay for the test, just humour me" said with a smile, has always worked for me

Amber,
Get yourself one of those big plastic boot trays that people put by their front doors. Then just set the LB in the tray and she can miss the box by lots. It will also save your floors.

I put newspapers down and then place one of these mats on top. Shadoe has intermittent issues outside the box.

She's not peeing over the side. She's peeing like 2 feet away from the box. I use the long storage containers and sit the box on the upside down lid. It doesn't matter since she's not in the box.

Oops! Thought I had entered info on spreadsheet. BG +9 366; PMPS 433 (nibbling on food for 3 hours). Dosecrease to 12 units at PMPS.

Just a quick question here ... with such high numbers and no results on acro yet, have you considered using R to pull down the numbers to a level that will be easier on Meadow and let the basal insulin take over when it kicks in around +3 or so.
Until you find a dose that gets you some nice numbers, it might be a good idea.

I'd like to hear what others have to say about adding a bit of R into the mix.

Someone told me to feed around the 8th or 9th hour. So should I take her food away if she hasn't finished by the 10th hour? Or is it going to still be high and not make a difference?

Usually between the +9 and +10 - allow kitty to eat, graze...

after that time,if you have treats, that helps to tie her over if she gets the munchies, one treat or two is fine.
