Hello everyone!

Please check the link to your spreadsheet. If you put your cursor over the link to your spreadsheet (but don't click!), the address should show at the VERY VERY bottom left of your browser window.

If you see "pub" in the link, you can stop reading.

If you see "ccc" in the link, please follow the directions below.

1) Log into google docs and your spreadsheet
2) Click on "share" button on the upper right side of your spreadsheet
3) Choose "publish as a web page"
4) make sure the box for "automatically republish when changes are made" is CHECKED.
5) grab the URL that is generated for you there. It should have "pub" in the address, NOT ccc.

5) Copy it (ctrl + c or command + c)
6) come back to FDMB, and put it in your signature line.

If you'd like for it to show as text link (like mine below)
1) paste the URL where I have "paste your URL here"
2) Replace "name of your SS here" with whatever you want to call the Spreadsheet
3) copy the entire code and paste it into your signature.

Code:
[url=paste the URL here]Name of your Spreadsheet here[/url]

Why am I asking you to do this? The 'ccc' URL links take up space in other people's google documents list. So, if I click on a SS link that says "ccc" that SS is automatically listed in my google docs list. Not a huge deal, but if you are someone who uses google documents a lot, having over 100 spreadsheets taking up space is not optimal.

Please take the time to follow the directions above. If you need additional assistance, you can either PM me, or post in the TECH forum for help.

BUMP!

oooohh I wonder if this is why SS's are taking forever to close, I have to click 3x's for a SS to close

thanks for posting Cyn! Will check it out!

That explains why I had SuperMax's profile in my google docs. I had clicked on it once to read. It's gone now. But I did think that was awful strange.

Thanks and BTW just last night I finally on my own got a ss put into my signiture. Somebody else had done it for me before. So thanks for the stickie, it worked out great!

Bump. And if anyone needs me to change your URL in the LL master spreadsheet, respond here or PM me, and I'll take care of it!

Minor detail here but...I did as stated above and clicked on the "share" BUTTON....but no "publish as a web page" showed up.

What really needs to be done is to click on the "share" ARROW next to the button.

Cyn, thanks again for posting the directions. They have been a HUGE help for me and my clients!!!

i can see that punkin's ss shows the "ccc" in the link, but when i go to his spreadsheet there is nothing in the upper right hand corner to change, ie, there is no "share" to even be able to change it to publish. i've tried logging out of FDMB and logging in to the spreadsheet first, but it still shows as ccc.

i also look in the google docs instructions on how to change your sharing, but there's no share button anymore for me to be able to do that.

help?

which, btw, i'm still on vacation with intermittent internet, so i wouldn't be able to respond soon to directions. thanks for the help.

Being logged onto FDMB has no effect (or at least shouldn't) on your SS in Google. You can log into your SS by clicking on the Sign In button at the very top right corner of the SS.

Or, try logging directly into Google in a new browser window or tab: http://docs.google.com From your list of documents, open your SS. The Share tab will be in the top right corner near your logged in name. Click on the little arrow on the Share tab to get the box with the Publish as web page option.

Try a different web browser if the one you typicalyl use doesn't work. Sometimes Google is finicky about web browsers.

Um, mine has a "cc", not "CCC".... :?:

The link in your signature is http://tiny.cc/oisjy which redirects to the
correctly published SS at https://spreadsheets.google.com/pub...NkdEFmM1dmNl95d2FBNmtwalVnN3kwaGc&output=html Your signature link is fine :thumbup It's fine to use a web site such as Tinyurl.com to shorten a loooong link

You just don't want the actual SS link to contain ccc in it. Example: spreadsheets.google.com/ccc....

A correct SS link will contain pub in it. Example: spreadsheets.google.com/pub......

apparently it's not just an issue with windows 7 - someone posted that they had trouble with other operating systems as well. i haven't gotten an answer yet from the google help desk about it.

I am usually great using anything on the computer, but trying to get a url with pub in it is proving futile. I don't have the option. When I click on Share, it gives me the option of: keeping it private, to list folks to have access, or to give link for access. Grrrrrrr

The "publish to the web" option is no longer from the "share" button. Googledocs changed their site...

In order to publish, click on the "file" menu. You'll see the option there.

Thanks for the new info Carl. Maybe this thread should be locked and a new one started w/ the changed instructions. It' would be frustrating for new member to follow the old ones only to see the change at the bottom!

i would add that i have been unable to get mine changed to pub - i use a netbook and google chrome, and only have installed a windows starter pack on it. i tried to use other computers that had the whole works, tried to use other browsers, and didn't succeed. apparently there have been problems with windows-based software and this.

so someone else made me a new spreadsheet for punkin and transferred the ownership to me.

I think Squeem3 posted the updated instructions on the Tech Forum a couple weeks ago. This will work until the next time google docs decides to change things!

PLEASE DO NOT BUMP

PLEASE DON'T KEEP BUMPING THIS THREAD.

The info from June 2010 is not reflective of the links we give new members. We give them the one the Squeem3 provided.

Edited to add: I'm closing this thread so it will no longer be bumped to the top. The info is out dated.
Please post SS related questions and problems in the Tech Forum.
Thank you!
