Re: 6/11Trey Amps 142BG +4
Hi Kath,
glad you are still posting

and especially glad to see you are testing!!
Honestly, I like seeing the numbers in the 100 range - that's very nice.

But just to make sure you understand, it usually takes a few days of consistent dosing for dose to settle in and show you what it really can do -- which means you are coming to a point when Trey's numbers may drop lower than they are now. I don't say that to scare you - because it's not neccesarily bad... But you do need to be prepared.
The lower numbers may be okay... or they may be too low - and you need to be testing enough to catch them if they are too low. And
Low numbers can come at night - We can ALL promise you that!!
Please test as much as you can - No one knows for sure that your vet is wrong about this dose - not even your vet... Our concern is only to keep Trey safe.
And the reason we have all suggested starting lower is so that you can comfortably learn what his response to insulin will be.
No one thinks poorly of you for following your vets advice - we just hope that you insure Trey's safety by testing like crazy till you find out for sure if he's right
My cat (weighing just over 10lbs when dx.) was started on 1.5 units of Lantus (with 3 vets agreeing on the dose because he had a BG of 399) He spent the first 2 and a half days in the 200's and dipping down into the higher 100's and then suddenly dropped to 32 on the 3rd night.
-- just keep testing - we're watching out for you.
