Ate ok - not all of breakfast, but close. She's been moving around pretty quickly this morning (although now she's lying on the bed cuz I got out the vacuum cleaner). I can leave food out for her and know she's the one who's eating it, since Blue isn't home.

Busy morning... I'll check back in later.

Re: 6/8 Kasha AMPS 420

Is Kasha afraid of the vacuum? My cat's are terrified.
Hope you have a more stress free day today.
Still praying for Blue, hope he's well.

Re: 6/8 Kasha AMPS 420, 276 @ +2!

Well, I guess Kasha's cleared her bounce already. I left her with a bunch of MC, both in her bowl and in an autofeeder, cuz I had to go to work.

She's not exacty afraid of the vacuum - she just doesn't want to be anywhere near it. She'll let me get pretty close to her with it, but once it gets within her no-fly zone, she's out of there. I think it helps that her hearing isn't that great anymore. The vacuum probably doesn't sound as bad now. Blue is deaf (as was his brother, Big White Cat) and while he somehow learned to fear the vacuum, when he was younger he and his brother would ride around on it as I went from room to room...

Just called the vet - they said Blue is doing fine (whatever that means) and that I can pick him up any time. I won't be picking him up till this afternoon - probably around 4 or just after. I figure, the longer he's there, the longer he's got professional people to take care of him. Yikes - I'm so stressed about picking him up, seeing him after surgery and then spending a long night at home with just me, Kasha and the patient (Blue)...

And there she gooooooooooooes. Hope she slows down.....have a good day Krys. Prayers that your car ride home and evening with Blue will be totally uneventful!!! :YMHUG:

Re: 6/8 Kasha AMPS 420, 276 @ +2! Blue is doing "fine"

The bounce definitely broke. Good plan with leaving some MC -- especially after yesterday.

glad to hear Blue is fine and coming home, he'll feel so much happier and better with you and his familiar things. Hope it goes well for you.

That's great Blue will be coming home. I hope all goes well this first evening and night with him. My thoughts are with you and blue.

Re: 6/8 Kasha AMPS 420, 276 @ +2! Blue is doing "fine"

What wonderful news that Blue's doing well; I like when they say "can go home anytime."
I am so excited for his homecoming and I am sure that Kasha will be happy too.

Be sure to get all you need from the vet before you head home, and ask all your 'what if' questions and get answers that sit well with you. Be sure they send you guys on your way home with enough pain meds, pre-filled injectables, patches, or even cream you can rub on the ear flap.

I hope you guys have a great evening once Blue's all settled and here's hoping that Kasha has a nice uneventful day too.

Yeah. Why can't she bounce so that she's in the high numbers all day and then drop at night when I can monitor???

I'm so glad Blue gets to come home today. I think most patients do better at home in their own surroundings, though it might be stressful for you. Sending healing vines & energies for Blue. Your Kasha certainly likes to cliff dive. Sounds like you have it under control. Hope you have a good day.

Re: 6/8 Kasha AMPS 420, 276 @ +2! Blue is doing "fine"

Sending more healing vibes to Blue and hope he feels more comfort being at home tonight. And hey Kasha, get off that roller coaster! Slow down, no need to get to the lower numbers so quickly, silly kitty.

Re: 6/8 Kasha AMPS 420, 276 @ +2! Blue is doing "fine"

Maybe Kasha is just trying to be nice because she knows it would be easier for me to measure 1 unit rather than 1.25...

Re: 6/8 Kasha AMPS 420, 276 @ +2! Blue is doing "fine"

You know, I have always wondered about those 'eyeball doses' because you honestly can't get them as consistent as the ones with a line to guide you. Maybe we all do better on the doses with lines!

Yes, about all I can say with assurance about measuring my 1.25 dose is that Kasha is getting less than 1.5 and more than 1 unit...

Maybe that's how I'll make my millions - design a syringe with 1/4 unit markings!!!! You'll need really good eyes or else it will just look like a dotted line running down the side of the syringe...

Kasha ate her Baytril in a pill pocket rolled in chicken dust. That can't work much longer. She even ate over 2 Tbsp FF - I'm a little shocked, cuz Blue was home and I thought she'd be freaked out. But she hasn't checked him out really yet.

When I went to pick Blue up with my friend Amy, I asked how he'd been getting around, using the litter box, etc.. They said he wasn't, he was unhappy being there and and wasn't moving around on his own and every time they took him out, he pretty much struggled, yelled and peed all over. Hmmm... not auspicious. I was a little disheartened hearing that he wasn't moving on his own... He did eat for them though.

They brought him out wrapped in a towel with an Elizabethan collar on him. He was growling and very awake. They asked if I wanted to touch him or something, I guess because he was angry and might bite. I touched his face and he calmed down. So, I just kept petting his head. He seemed to like it. Then I asked to see the incision. Wow. It wasn't quite as bad as it could have been, but it's crazy looking. Like a child's stuffed animal that lost its leg and got sewn up badly. Kind of like a beanbag all sewn up.

He was quiet on the way home and somehow turn completely around in the carrier, once or twice.

We got home and put him in his cage. He was moving kind of poorly, but then he ate about 1/2 can of FF. Hmmm... Then he kind of hop-dragged himself to the litter box and lay down in it. Hmmm... Then he moved out. Then he moved back. The more he moved, the better he moved. Amy was amazed that he was moving around so much. Then he went to the litter and kind of sat/squatted. He got this look on his face and I said, "I think he's peeing!" And voila - he peed in the litter box. All of this within about 45 min of being home. Of course, a little while later he lay down in the the used litter again... But baby steps.

He does not like being confined in the cage. He's supposed to be in there for 3 WEEKS! Hmmm... We'll see. I suspect he'll be in there when I can't supervise him. He finished the can of FF and is dozing right now. He hopped around pretty good last time he moved. We might need to rearrange the recovery room. He's half on, half off the little bed. The halo collar thing is off him now, I'll probably put it back on when I can't watch him.

Tired... Long day.

that was a wonderful report considering all he's been through. I'm so happy he's home where he knows he's loved and is safe, that will help so much in his recovery.
Now you try and get some rest and destress.

When a little kid is sick, what helps to feel better? Always mama knows what to do.

I think Blue may be hurting, but now he's in his own home with his mama and his stuff; I bet he's feeling alot better to be away from the vets for sure!

It sounds like he's doing fabulous! I wonder if he could overdo his moving around and harm the incision? Maybe he'll settle down after a good nite in his own home and surroundings.

I bet Kasha will be fine with those fancy treats you are giving with her meds.
I hope she'll be fine with Blue.

It does all sound positive if he's moving around, trying his litter box which is great. And eating, too, good sign. I'd say he's happy to be home! I wish Blue a speedy recovery.

I tried to put a cold compress on Blue's incision but he was having none of it. I could have forced him, but the poor guy has been thru enuf. I had to put his Elizabethan collar back on because he was trying to lick the incision. I gave him his bupe a little while ago and he went out like a light.

Anyone who's given bupe orally before - what do you do? Do you inject into the mouth all at once? Where do you aim? They told me nothing at the vet, but I read various things such as squirting into the cheek, squirting under the tongue (?), and giving it in increments spaces a minute or 2 apart... anyone do any of this? What works, what's overkill, etc?

Right now there are sheets over Blue's cage to give him some privacy and darkness for him to rest (with a little opening where he can see out if he wants). Kasha went over twice to check on him - she's pretty much tiptoed over and then tiptoed away, looking freaked out. I just checked on him and he was resting with the E collar on - he is sleepy, but looked at me when I looked at him.

I wish I could fast forward Blue's recovery a week or two...

Having a tough time keeping track of all the meds to give tonight - tomorrow should be easier because the antibiotics and bupe for Blue can be given at the same time (but I wanted to get them on schedule by splitting the difference between the vet's schedule and mine so tonight is all messed up). And I hope to plan it so that after I'm done with Kasha's shot and feeding, I will just give Blue his stuff and that will hopefully be that.

Your vet should have told you how to administer the bupe. You put it into the cheek pocket or under the tongue. It's not a med you want to shoot down Blue's throat. It's absorbed through the oral mucosa and isn't meant to be swallowed in its entirety. (Inevitably, some will be swallowed but it's not like giving oral amoxycillen that you can shoot down the throat.)

I'm glad Blue is home. From everything Joyce said, he'll be up and about far sooner than you would expect.

That's what I read, thanks. I tried to aim under the tongue (to mixed reviews) and then gave some in the cheek. Gave about 1/4 and waited a minute to let it absorb (don't know if that made a difference)... just repeated till the syringe was empty.

It sounds like a good plan you have and it was nice to hear that Kasha is being kind and checking on Blue.
I find with 2 cats to handle, it's best to do all for one first, and then move on to the other one.

I hope Blue has a restful nite and tomorrow is not too painful for him.
