For some reason Alex was a little 'grouchy pants' yesterday, and 'whiny pants' too...I'm not really sure why but I'm keep an eye on him to try to figure this out. I thought maybe his thyroid had run amok because he was also unusually hungry compared to the past 2 weeks, but today he's not so much. So, I have my Sherlock Mommy hat on and I will be investigating this matter :?

So far today, Alex has his 'purry pants' on (although he didn't want to take his AM pills and is finding that it's a lot of fun to PUSH my hand away when I try to open his mouth). I won! He had a big breffis but he didn't scarf it down...he walked away and went back. he took time to *taste* the beef and chicken sprinkled with chicken dust :) He took his after breffis nap with Jackson (well in the same room as Jackson), and now he's at my feet waiting for his shot because he knows he gets a snackus...

So I will oblige him and shoot 20 minutes early then be back to add his AMPS!

Okay, I'm not done with YESTERDAY'S condo:

The fuds..it's been trial and error with both of them having stomach viruses and loss of appetites we finally have decided that they both love Friskies Special Diets Foods..all of the flavors except chicken cause that is high carb. I even let them have the Ocean Whitefish and salmon(on rotation) cause they do luvs it an like I was reminded, kitties SHOULD luvs their foodies! I put chicken dust or Grandma Lucy's freeze-dried tuna on top(crushed uo) so that they will luv it even more. For snacks they get ff, liv-a-littles, and Grandma Lucy's. i just hope they keep loving this stuff!!! It's less expensive than ff and they are bigger cans!

I am sorry to say that I missed any converstions about how kittis SHOULD luvs their foodies. I want Kitty to luvs his foodies!! I have tried almost every low carb food I can find (although I haven't tried Friskies Special Diets, is that LC??)

Right now, he eats a mix of FF chicken feast and Evo 95% -- but he eats it happily only when there's chicken dust on top, and then he mostly eats the chicken dust off and leaves the rest.

What is a mama bean to do?? If he would just tell me what he wants, I would give it to him. :YMSIGH: Are Alex and Jackson talking to YOU?

Well Alex and Jackson didn't tell me that kitties should love their foodies...although I think they would agree :lol:

And there were 2 hard weeks of either or both of them turning their noses up at the food until exhausted i gave them a can of SD beef and liver I had in the house and they GOBBLED it up. So i bought one of each flavor. They were diggin' it :shock:

There wasn't exactly a conversation about it..I said to a friend, Alex and Jackson really loved their dinner and she said "good, because kitties SHOULD LUV their food". At which point I revisited a conversation I had with myself about 20 years ago when i had my last cat, Chance. He had just been dx'd with HCM and the vet told me what he couldn't eat and that was everything he loved. He was 11 years old. He went on a hunger strike when he saw the crap I was feeding him. I called my vet up in tears and told her "Chance isn't eating. All cats live for is to sleep, play and eat and we're taking eating away from him. He's 11 and he doesn't play all that much anymore. Maybe i should just shoot him? I want to give him what he likes. If he can't live a life that is a good life, then I'd rather not prolong his misery". She said, "ya' know what, you're right. Give him what he loves". He was so happy and apparently it didn't affect him because he lived 6 more years and died of cancer.

Point being that I understand that diabetes is different. I can't give them gravy foods and such but I can give them what tastes good. Friskies SD is very lc except for the chicken which is in gravy and i don't buy it. Brewers rice is in it(whatever that is)but apparently it doesn't affect the low carbness of it. They loooove the salmon and Ocean whitefish flavors (I realize that too much fish is not great but the ingredients also says liver, poultry;etc so i think fish is just a percentage and the special diet part is made for urinary tract health so how bad can it be)? and they love 4 of the flavors..no 5 and i rotate them. they also love the beef and chicken, beef and liver and turkey and giblets(Jackson looves that one). They are 13. It's low carb. I'm giving them what they like the best ... they deserve it. KWIM? :mrgreen: :mrgreen:

when one doesn't like a flavor as much as the other, I put chicken dust on it too ;-)

ETA: It just makes sense to me...and the friend was Carolyn :D

You -and Carolyn! :-D - make sense to me!!! Quality of life matters. What's the point of living forever if you can't have or do any of the things that make life worthwhile?

Sometimes I feel so guilty about keeping Kitty indoors. Every time our front door opens, he wants to go OUT, where the grass and birdies are. Yes, I know there are also hawks and owls and dogs and cars and fleas... so I keep him in.

But if he's a bored prisoner, and he thinks his food is the equivalent of bread and water, well, what's the point?

I have tried so hard to find food he really likes, without luck. I'll try the Friskies Special Diet.

And chicken dust. More chicken dust. :-D

We keep our kitties indoors because we started them out that way and they can't fend for themselves. Also because we can't protect them from cars and trucks. That's different. I don't feel guilty about that. You are giving Kitty life by keeping him safe inside. But sleep, eat and play. I had forgotten about that until Carolyn said "kitties should LUV their food"...and then I remembered that I KNEW THAT. I had forgotten because i was so blinded by the diabetes thing. When I saw Alex and Jackson both INHALE the Ocean Whitefish flavor last night (3 carbs..)..Chance's favorite was 9Lives Tuna and Egg... I felt great!!!! :-D And like I said..There is also poultry and liver and other stuff in it. Ocean whitefish is just one of the ingredients but it's the one the OBVIOUSLY taste :)

Kitties SHOULD luv♥ their food :)

I'm glad you've hit upon some food that they both like. That has to make things a lot easier.

Oh it does, it does! It also helps that I've decided to give them what THEY like (within Janet & Binky's guidelines, of course). But after that, anything goes. They want fish flavor and that is now in their rotation. Like I said...they are 13 year young kitties and they should LUV ♥ their foodies :mrgreen:
