AMPS 104
PMPS 301

Today, I was supposed to be out all morning & be home early or mid-afternoon. Plans changed & I did not get home until just before PMPS time. When I checked on Morris, I discovered that he had eaten less than 1/2 the food that I had put out for him this morning. He also tried to bite me when I was just giving him snuggle time. With both of those symptoms tonight, combined with him trying to swat at me with his claws a few times over the past couple days, I think he might be having another P-itis flare

I had dh help me & I gave him a dose of mirtz & a dose of bupe tonight along with his insulin. Unfortunately, I do not have any SQ fluids left at home, so I will pick up some at the vets office on Monday. Hopefully the mirtz & bupe will help him start on the road to recovery!

Unfortunately, I am scheduled to be out of the house for the majority of the day tomorrow.

How about starting him on some Pepsid, as well?
OOPS! I did forget about that! However, Morris is an EXTREMELY difficult cat to pill & my vet isn't too thrilled with the idea of giving him any more injections (she says there is some research about the more injections a cat gets the more likely they are to develop cancer?!?!) But, since I have learned Morris is also very difficult to give oral bupe to, I am going to insist on injectable bupe when we run out of what we have on hand right now.

Sending feel way better tomorrow vines to Morris. Poor baby. I hope the bupe and mirtz helps alot.

Thank you all for the get well soon vibes!

Morris has at least had a few bites of food since his insulin shot 1 hour ago. I tried giving him a bit of pepcid hidden in a pill pocket.....he hasn't eaten that as yet!

Oh poor Morris. Lord I hate CP. I hope the meds do their job and he's soon feeling better. I'm so lucky Tori isn't hard to pill usually at all. She loves Pill Pockets. They are her favourite treat. Maybe she thinks they are illegal. We feed raw at my house.

If you're going to do squids, find out what you can put into the line. You can get a hook-up to inject meds into the fluids which would serve the same purpose unless the meds can't be diluted.

Dang. I know I responded, but that stupid "new posts since you started typing your post" thing ate it.

Stuff i use

1) pepcid (injectable) as soon as Cosmo licks lips or barfs up clear fluid.
2) fluids (he gets them every day for CRF anyway. i give a bit extra when he's flaring).
3) bupe (oral) if he hides or meatloafs
4) antinauseant (cerenia or anzamet) if he barfs more than 2x in 4 hr period of time.
5) mirtz: if he doesn't eat for 24 hrs.

The pepcid and antinauseant, I've given through the SQ line (injectable port). I keep both of these meds in the fridge, bc/ I think they sting less.

Also, I thought the tumors from injections were mostly from vaccinations? Am I wrong?

Yes, that would DEFINATELY make things easier! I will mention that to my vet when requesting new meds this week. Both of these I have on hand in pill form, but only give to Morris when he is having a flare (this is only flare #2). Perhaps if I plan on using it that way, she wouldn't mind giving me a Rx for injectible!

I;m not sure....I was kind of surprised by this thought when she brought it up.....especially since I'm giving Morris 2 injections of insulin every day!!!

I have checked on him this morning....still has not eaten very much overnight. It is soon time for AMPS & then I will be heading out the door for most of the day.....I will give an update on him when I get home later.

Gwen:

I would post the question about injections and tumors on Health. I think Cyn is correct -- what I remember is that vets keep track of where a vaccination is placed because of the potential for a tumor.
