Re: 5/29 Johnny AMPS 247 ~ +3 (190)
He's doing really well. He's a changed cat since starting on the insulin and more himself. He still has longer periods of lower-energy than he used to, but I think he's building back up nicely.
He's increasingly had more periods of "Johnny" play. He's always liked to jump after balls thrown against the wall. He's a natural goalie and twists and turns in the air. 99% of the time he regains control of the ball and hits it back to you, all from different angles. In the couple months prior (before dx), he'd gradually lost interest in doing that. At first, he'd mew at us while standing by the wall to ask to play, but they when you tossed it, he seemed to realize that he couldn't do what he wanted to and would just sit there. Later, he just stopped asking and was kind of a loungey boy all the time, sleeping lots and eating/drinking even more. Now, he's back to his old tricks.

Does a mama's heart good! I thought the changes were just aging, or maybe that's what I hoped. But, I think he just didn't have the energy and the weight loss had affected his ability to do what he wanted. So glad to see him back to having fun. He also had become pretty grumbly to the other two cats for no reason ("oh no you DIDN'T just walk past me!!"), which was unusual. Now, he seems pretty much back to his laid-back self.
And the poo dances are back to being creative and energetic. What's a poo dance, you ask? He celebrates after he poos! Runs here and there, jumps up on a table, down from the table, up the stairs, down the stairs with frequent, "look at me!" MEOWs. He really choreographs them and they are all different.

We think it's because he feels so much lighter. Haha. He'd be happy to perform at an OTJ party sometime. ;-)
His appetite is great and overall he just seems glad to be feeling better. I think he could do without the ear pricks, but I like to think he's realizing that they lead to him feeling better. He's much more cooperative than our other two would be in this situation and we're glad for that. And with the wet food, he hardly drinks any water. That's a huge change. He would drink 1/2 a bowl in the weeks leading up to his dx.
