Socks trace ketones

I was going to post in PZI, but it seems a bit dead atm.

We had a nice cycle a few days ago and we must be bouncing since then. Today has been a very ugly day. Hoping for a meter readable number at least for his pmps.

He tested trace for ketones I think, it's just so close from negative to trace. I'm hoping he doesn't go DKA since it's Saturday and I am supposed to go in to work in a few hours. He doesn't really show any signs, other than maybe some slight lethargy, but he pretty much looks like he usually does when his levels are really high, so I'm attributing it to his high numbers and I'm hoping I'm right. He was begging for food, so I gave him some mixed with water. His breath always smells so bad because his teeth are in bad shape, so I can't really go by breath odor.

I'm hoping I don't get home after work to a really sick cat nailbite_smile, but I have a few more hours to watch him, and I'm only scheduled 6 hours but might be able to get out a bit earlier if I'm lucky.

I just wish I knew what to do. On the one hand, I don't want to take him in to the emergency vet and skip work just because I'm overreacting and being over sensitive to things, but on the other, I also don't want to shrug it off as nothing and come home to a cat that is on his deathbed. It also doesn't really help that I'm a bit of a hypochondriac when it comes to myself, so I think a headache means I have an aneurism and so on if you catch my drift.

I'm glad he's eating, and mixing some water in with his food is a smart thing. Trace ketones is a warning, so keep testing every chance you get. Like maybe put plastic wrap over the litter to catch a pool of pee, or keep fish tank gravel in the litter box, or keep the litter box within eye sight all the time to stalk him when he goes in. I know that two colors between negative and trace are similiar but in good lighting you can see a difference. Have you tried testing yourself and look at those test results in the same lighting you are looking at Sock's test results.

I am sending ketones be gone vines to Socks.

He had a pretty good appetite for his pmps feeding, I also added a bit of water to that. And he did some grooming after his meal as well. He's never been the most fastidious cleaner, so we always joke about having to call the vet when we see him grooming . He doesn't seem to have any problems jumping on the counter/bed, which I'm guessing would indicate some weakness/lethargy.

I have another cat, so I'm not sure if the plastic wrap trick would work? I have tested myself before, but not this time, I'm pretty sure it was trace, I may be just trying to convince myself that it was negative.

We did get a readable number, still in the black though. Baby steps, lol.

Looks like work may be a bit slow tonight, unless this rain brings more people in as it does sometimes. Hopefully it stays slow and I get out early to be able to chase this cat around to his litter box.

Thanks for the positive thoughts Dyana.

I know DKA can progress quickly, but how quick is quickly? I know ECID and all, but what kind of chances are there he might be in a really bad condition when I get home from work 7-8 hours from now? Especially if he has a decent appetite and the only sign he *may* be showing is some lethargy, which like I said before, I'm pretty sure is due to his high numbers.
