Newbies..want to see an old timer kitty get the pokey?

Lord Thomas is certainly handsome and such a good patient.

Is this to be a training video. ? See if you can get someone to
film from the top side, showing the actual poke, sipping up the blood drop, etc.
 
Karen it was really just for fun. But I made a newbie kits video just to kind of show what's in the kit and how you can get started right away. Waiting for it to download. I thought I might attach it to the stickie and maybe this too? Or you think I should get better? This is not educational so much as just to show how the kitties do eventually come to take it as a matter of course and no biggie. What do you think?
 
Are you using a Contour? What lancet device do you use?

I want to try a lancet device (though I have no problem free handing it), since Noxin tends to jerk his head away in anticipation of the poke, which sometimes results in him pulling away mid-poke *ouch*. I think that I might be able to get the 'prick' part over with faster if I got used to one.

He still waits for me eagerly for pokes and treats while purring though :)
 
Hi Cheri, I do not use the lancet device...just free hand.
And yes, I use the contour.

he may have lashed his tail Laur, but soon as I shake that vial of strips he comes trotting over and assumes 'the postion'. He purrs his way thru it and every time I just know it does hurt a little. Tom may like some 'pain' as he is part feral and a hunter and a fighter.
I really do think it hurts me more than it does him... cat_pet_icon

So I see from your community post! I hope he did eat up his gopher. It is hard to watch when they catch something, but I feel like it would be worse if they didn't eat the prey. The thing I notice with my cats is how super proud of themselves they are when they catch/eat a critter in the fenced yard, or when they have thawed whole prey. Tom? He is very nonchalant about his kill, like it ain't no big thang. :lol: What an awesome confident boy you have. Very impressive speed too -- he was like lightning to snatch the prey back when you tried to move it a little.

laur, tom has caught and digested gopher 7 or 8 times that size. i guess you were not around for his big kill a month or 2 back. he ate the whole thing and proceeded to throw it up in my bedroom!!!!!
yes, he ate his little prey.
once the camera was off. his ears showed his annoyance at my interrupting his process.
he eats all of his prey...even the one's he leaves for me. i guess he figures i get first dibs and if i won't eat it he will.
i had a hard time with it for a low time.
he brought home a rat that was huge...maybe 3 lbs. and it took him forever to get it allllll the way dead.
i hated him every once in a while for those kills.
but i am a bit more stoic about those things now...

Cheri, I use a lancet device because I found it's faster than freehanding. I've tried a few different ones, but the one I like best is the Relion device at Walmart. The top is circular so it's easy to aim.
