I came home from getting a quick bite to eat to find Kitty has thrown up a lot.

I found her on the screen porch continuing to heave. She threw up a little more. It kind if reminded me of how she sounds with hairballs-- but, it was pretty violent.

I have no idea if this is related to the abs, hairball--- or what.

I have tried to feed her-- not very interested. I did get her to eat a little raw meat.

What do I do? I shot 4 units tonight into 305-- now she has lost dinner and doesn't want to eat.

196--that is low for her at +2.5

I know it is not dangerous yet, but her nadir is normally +8 and that is the first 100 number I have seen in months

Food in the Puke

She will not eat the tuna- she normally eats everything

ER ?

She's dropped a 100 points in 2.5 hours...you may need to stay up a little late tonight to make sure she's not going too low.
Tuna would be great. Do you have any pepcid ac? That may help if she's still feeling nauseous.

do you have any pepcid ac? if so, you can give her 1/4 of a 10mg pill. if her tummy is upset she won't want to eat anything. if you don't have pepcid, does your vet have an after hours emergency contact? like if i call my vet it says "if you have an emergency, please contact advanced critical care blah blah blah....."

i don't know the whole background but got that she got an increased dose of insulin, threw up, won't eat now and recently had dental work and is on abs for that. the abs might be upsetting her gut enough to make her inappetant. which sucks given the increasingly better numbers and the increase in dose.

what abs is she getting?

Just got her to lick maybe a tsp of 3 percent carb lite cool whip

I don't think I have any pepcid-- I'll look

how long's it been since the throw up? maybe she just needs a little time for her tummy to settle before she will eat much of substance. probably gonna have to be careful anyway with what she does eat so as to not make her throw up again.

I know it is early in the night, but I would breathe for a little while
sometimes when they go very low in the beginning, the will even out for the rest of the time
she might not go much lower..you have time
hopefully her belly is just a little upset now and she will start to feel a little better soon.

hang in there
i will checkin again soon

I have a syringe!
I have FF chicken & gravy! Is that med carb?

I just got another tsp of lite cool whip in her

Won't Sue be so proud of me for testing mid cycle?!

This is not like her -- she has a long way to go to nadir-- normally +8 range

I am ot one that should give advice but since she dropped 100 points
I amnot sure if she would go hypo
I culd be wrong, but I have seen this before with Shakes where he drops big in the
first few hours, then it stables out and he goes up faster than normal
Breathe and lets wait and see what happens

Today is changing her nadir.

Believe it or not today is a breakthrough for Ms. Kitty.

You may have to stay up late tonight but it will be worth it.

crud. if her number is still up i would hold off on trying to get anything more in her just yet. let her tummy settle for a bit. maybe a dab of water is all.

if she approaches 100 or under anytime soon, i have a feeling you might have to think about the ER. don't want to wait until it's too late and if she won't eat or can't keep food down, food isn't going to be helpful if the BG level gets down too low. if she holds around these numbers for several more hours then you'll probably be ok. i just don't like that you're not going to be able to count on food to help it seems.

edited to get rid of ketone question. see you tested today for them :-)
also edited to say i really really don't like the throwing up since you posted that last comment about all over the bed about the time i was typing this too :-(

That is a lot of throw up..
how long has she been throwing up
why dont you call the vet if you are getting very nervous
I agree to maybe stop feeding and make a phone call,

what is she at now

i have to go home for the night and my computer there is still inop but you have plenty of eyes. will check first thing in the morning on you guys but i'll leave you with it's always better to be safe than not so if you get scared or find yourself getting too upset or whatever, there is absolutely nothing wrong with an ER visit. ((kim)) see you in the morning

I called the vet -- they confirmed why I joined this group
 Sorry you're not getting more help from your vet. Is there another vet you can call, or an ER vet you can call? Since she's throwing up food, I'd get some karo/syrup/any kind of sugar on hand for her. That will absorb in the mouth at least, and not have to be eaten.

How long has she been on antibiotics? & which kind? Some of them REALLY upset kitty's stomach, so if you started them recently, I'd ask your vet about switching, or at least getting an anti-nausea med. When I'd give Cuddles Clavamox, I could literally HEAR her poor tummy making noises, and she wouldn't eat.

Hoping you can control the BG from going too low w/ karo/honey/syrup, but if not, don't be afraid to go to ER vet in area.. they SHOULD be able to know to hook up to dextrose/sugar drip!

They said to monitor her and be sure she didn't go too low or TOO HIGH

I had that part figured out.

So, do I take her --

We are outside and she us wanting to est grass. I am not letting her.

i was thinking the same thing. grass helps with upset tummies. just didn't know if i was remembering it correctly (ok, outta here, fiance is yelling at me)

Did they say at what number to bring her in? Or how to keep her from going too low? Was there any more senior person you could ask to speak to?

Wait it out or take her?

I just had the yard sprayed with a fungicide--- she can't eat it
